In order to open the tourism sector in a dire situation after the Corona epidemic, the Ministry of Tourism has approved the criteria 2077 regarding the protocols to be followed by the tourists coming to Nepal for mountaineering and trekking. As per the protocol, all international travelers must obtain a Nepal Visa before arriving in Nepal. In countries where obtaining a Nepalese visa is not possible, the group can visit Nepal or mountaineering and trekking with the prior consent of the travel or trekking agency in Nepal.
For those groups who are not able to acquire visas in their country, the Immigration Department will issue the on-arrival visa. However, the respective agency managing the group must submit a pre-approval application to the Department of Tourism for mountaineering tourists and to the Department of Immigration for trekking tourists through the Nepal Tourism Board.
Here is a necessary protocol to be followed by international travelers after arriving in Nepal:
PCR report within 72 hours
All international travelers must submit the negative PCR test report up to 72 hours in advance. The validity of the certificate will be reviewed by the department of immigration at the time of issuing a visa. The immigration department will also check the pre-acceptance document.
Similarly, the government has made it mandatory to stay at least 7 days in quarantine in the hotel. So, documents of pre-booking of the hotel for at least 7 days must be submitted during visa approval.
It has also been made mandatory for all tourists coming to Nepal to have insured documents worth USD 5,000 per person.
Seven Days Quarantine
All the tourists visiting Nepal must stay in quarantine for 7 days. On the fifth day of the quarantine, the PCR test of the tourist will be conducted at their own expense. The traveler will only be allowed to trek and mountaineer if the PCR test is negative. During the 7 days, of quarantine and the negative PCR test doesn’t come, the traveler is not allowed to leave the hotel premises.
Up to One Lakhs of insurance for Guide and Helper
The travel agency must have done the insurance of the hiking and mountaineering team against corona of at least one lakh Nepalese rupees. During the trekking or mountaineering, the respective team must follow the health standards approved by the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal.
